City of Morris swore in two new Police Officers 11 Jul 18

            The City of Morris swore in two new police officers at last night’s City Council meeting. Damon Burkel is a recent graduate of the law enforcement program. Cole Reichenbacher has had some part time officer experience with Starbuck and Anoka. Police Chief Ross Tiegs hopes his department will be up and running at full strength by the end of July.

In other Council happenings, a group of some three dozen were approved to be precinct judges for this August’s primary election at the city’s three remaining polling stations. The City is still seeking election judges for the November general election. And with the Hotel 200 motel and restaurant reverting back to its original ownership, a request to transfer its liquor license back to the original owner was approved, pending a background check. Also, the city’s application for a 2018 Minnesota Small Cities Development Program Grant from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development was approved for funding in the amount of $421,875, pending an expected award from the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Additionally, the contract for Community Education Director Tony Reimers was renewed for 2018-2019 with an annual salary of $71,556.
