Clay Target League Championships Come To An End In Alexandria 19 Jun 18

ALEXANDRIA – Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta clay target shooters finished with a team score of 472, taking ninth place in the class 3A competition last Wednesday at the championships in Alexandria. 

Brady Cardwell scored a 97 which put him in a group of shooters who tied for 12th in the varsity male category, Morgan Kirwin finished 10th in the varsity female category with a 92, Dalton Schmidt took 23rd in the jr. varsity male group with an 85. 

Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley finished 25th in 3A competition with a 451, Jacob Gillespie tied for 31st in varsity scoring with a 95. Ashby took 15th with a 494, Austin Schroeder had a score 0f 94 (46th) while Elli Johnsrud scored 80 (T30).

In class 2A competition Wheaton took second place with a score of 472, Jackson Deal shot a 97 which put him in a tie for fifth in the varsity male competition, Hunter Johnson was ninth with a 96. Madison Tohm had an 80 and was tied for 18th. 

Brandon-Evansville had a 454 which was good for 15th place, they were led by Nick Thorstad who placed 46th with a 92. 

In the class 4A competition, West Central Area was 31st with a 406. Waylon Stevens tied for 33rd in the male varsity category with a 92. 

The class 1A competition was rained out last Monday, meaning Hancock and Minnewaska shooters took their season averages. 

The lone area team that made the 40 team cut for state qualifying was Alexandria, who took second in class 7A competition, and sixth overall. 

Individually, the top 100 averages across the state qualify for the state tournament, including Wheaton’s Hunter Johnson Zach Stueve, and Jackson Deal, Brandon-Evansville’s Michael Schroeder, and from Ashby Austin Schoeder, Benton Stadsvold, and Christian Koefod. 

The state tournament will be on Friday, June 22nd at the Minneapolis Gun Club in Prior Lake.
