Seven Tigers Earns Softball Honors, Dietz Named Conference MVP 04 Jun 18

MORRIS – After earning their fifth straight West Central Conference title with an 11-1 record, the Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta Tigers had seven players earned conference honors, including junior pitcher Liz Dietz who was named Most Valuable Player for the 2018 season. 

Dietz is joined by Bailey Marty, Emma Bowman, Whitney DeMaris, Mackenzie Hockel, and Riley Decker on the all-conference team, with Jen Solvie earning honorable mention.

In the circle Dietz had a 15-4 record with one save and a 1.88 ERA. She allowed just 26 earned runs over 110.2 innings, walking 31 while striking out 97. 

At the plate Dietz led the Tigers with a .462 batting average with four doubles and two home runs. She tied for team lead with 28 RBI’s, posted a team best .557 on-base percentage and was second on the team with a .615 slugging percentage.

For the junior shortstop Marty, she hit .431 which was second only to Dietz, driving in 18 runs and scoring 31 runs out of the leadoff spot in the lineup. She was second with a .518 on-base, third with a slugging percentage of .556 while posting a .921 fielding percentage at one of the game’s toughest spots. 

The freshmen Bowman also played a vital position at catcher, posting a .981 fielding percentage while hitting .333 with 16 RBI’s and 15 runs at the plate. 

Junior second baseman Decker hit .400 with 20 RBI’s and 19 runs scored, she was solid up the middle defensively with a .923 fielding percentage. 

Hockel impressed in her first year with the Tigers, the sophomore hit .379 with 13 RBI’s and 24 runs. She posted the second best on-base percentage at .520 and never committed an error in the outfield, posting a perfect fielding percentage. 

Senior third baseman DeMaris hit .339 with 10 RBI’s and 19 runs scored with a .903 fielding percentage.

The junior first baseman Solvie hit .387, tied for the team lead with 28 RBI’s, 24 runs, and a team-high .710 slugging percentage, belting three home runs, nine doubles, and a triple.
