Gophers Receive No. 14 Seed, Face Canisius In NCAA Tourney 28 May 18

MINNEAPOLIS – The Gopher Baseball team received the number 14 overall seed in the 2018 NCAA Baseball Tournament and will host the Minneapolis Regional from Friday, June 1 to Monday, June 4 on campus at Siebert Field as announced Monday during the NCAA Selection Show on ESPNU.

This marks the first time Minnesota will host NCAA Baseball Tournament action in Minneapolis since hosting the Minneapolis Regional in 2000.

The 14-seed Minnesota will take on Canisius in the first round of the tournament Friday at 7 p.m. while on the other side of the bracket, UCLA makes a return trip to Minneapolis after competing at this year’s DQ Classic-Big Ten/Pac-12 Challenge at U.S. bank Stadium. The Bruins take on Gonzaga beginning at 1 p.m. on Friday.

The four-team, double elimination regional bracket will feature two games each day with an if-necessary seventh game on Monday. Game times have yet to be determined. The Gophers will match up against the region’s fourth seed in game one Friday while the second and third seeds meet on the other side of the bracket. 

Friday, June 1
1 p.m. – Game One: (2) UCLA vs. (3) Gonzaga
7 p.m. – Game Two: (1) Minnesota vs. (4) Canisius

Saturday, June 2
1 p.m. – Game Three: Loser of Game One vs. Loser of Game Two (Elimination Game)
7 p.m. – Game Four: Winner of Game One vs. Winner of Game Two

Sunday, June 3
2 p.m. – Game Five: Winner of Game Three vs. Loser of Game Four (Elimination Game)
6 p.m. – Game Six: Winner of Game Five vs. Winner of Game Four (Championship Game)

Monday, June 4
6 p.m. – Game Seven (if necessary): If Winner of Game Five wins Game Six vs. Winner of Game Four

All NCAA Tournament games will be streamed live on the ESPN family of networks.
