Tigers Finish Third At True Team State Championships 21 May 18

True Team State Championships
STILLWATER – The Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta boys track and field team competed at the class A State True Team Meet in Stillwater on Saturday, claiming third place with a score of 484.
The Tigers had 16 top ten finishes, four of which were good for first place, including two from Camden Arndt in the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles. The other first came in the relays, the 4×400 team of Abe Schmidgall, Tate Nelson, Jaden Maanum, Mace Yellow, as well as the 4×800 team of Nelson, Ben Hernandez, Noah Stewart, and Maanum.
Runner-up finishes went to Noah Stewart in the 3200 and the 4×200 relay team. Fellow section 5A schools Holdingford and Montevideo finished first and second.

Minnewaska 12, Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta 1 (5 inn)
MORRIS – Minnewaska scored nine runs over the first two innings which was more than enough for Matt Gruber as the Lakers defeated Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta 12-1 on Monday from Chizek Field.
Gruber allowed a run on three hits over five innings, striking out five for the win while the Laker lineup collected 11 hits, two from Colin Weidauer who drove in three runs and scored twice. Ryan Christenson had two hits and three runs for the Lakers who are 13-5.
Chandler Vogel took the loss and was chased from the game after two innings. Vogel did provide two of the three Tiger hits as they fall to 7-10. 

Border West 14, Hillcrest Lutheran 4
WHEATON – Border West scored seven runs in the bottom of the fifth, ending a 14-4 win over Hillcrest in five innings.
The Bucs had 13 hits, three from Nate Moberg who had three RBI’s and three runs, Chanler Combellick knocked in a pair of runs and Matt Thielen picked up the win, allowing four runs (two earned) on six hits with 12 strikeouts over five innings. The Bucs are now 11-3, the Comets fall to 0-13. 

Parkers Prairie 5, Brandon-Evansville 3
PARKERS PRAIRIE – Matt Ferley belted a three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh, and Parkers Prairie walked-off Brandon-Evansville 5-3 on Monday.
The Chargers entered the seventh leading 3-1 before the Panthers were able to get a run back on a pair of Charger errors before Ferley’s blast ended it. Despite not allowing an earned run, Brandon Merritt took the loss after going the distance for the Chargers who fall to 10-6, the Panthers are 9-8.

Quad County Conference Meet
ELBOW LAKE – West Central Area’s Jessica St. Martin took medalist honors at the Quad County Conference Meet on Monday from Tipsinah Mounds Golf Course in Elbow Lake.
St. Martin fired an 86, good for a eight-shot win over Otter Tail Central’s Adysen Tisdahl, teammate Kate Wrolson tied for fifth with a 99 and the Lady Knights took second in team scoring with a 412, 11 shots back of OTC. St. Martin and teammate Lexi Poyzer were named all-conference for the Knights. 
Hillcrest Lutheran’s Mike Vall took medalist honors for the boys with a 74, one shot behind was OTC’s Jackson Nyhus. The Bulldogs won the team title with a 324, Ortonville was runner-up 13 shot back, Border West took seventh with low scorer being Nelson Schmidt who shot an 87. West Central finished ninth, Kaden Spindler led with an 86. Both Schmidt and Spindler were named all-conference.
