Owls Walk-Off Warriors For First Softball Win, Split With Knights In Baseball 01 May 18

MACA 13, Sauk Centre 2 / MACA 12, Sauk Centre 10
MORRIS – Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta collected 21 hits over two games in a sweep of Sauk Centre on Tuesday.
In game one the Tigers jumped on the Mainstreeters 13-0 after four innings on their way to a 13-2 win. Bailey Marty led the Tigers at the plate, going 3-5 with three RBI’s and three runs, Jen Solvie drove in three and Kenna Kehoe allowed two runs over 4.1 innings for the win.

In game two the Tigers held a 9-1 lead after three innings and held on for a 12-10 win. Emma Bowman went 3-5 with three RBI’s and a run, Liz Dietz tossed a complete game for the win and the Tigers improve to 6-0. 

Hancock 7, Wheaton/Herman-Norcross 6 (8 inn)
HANCOCK – Emma Nelson scored on Ashlyn Mattson’s single in the bottom of the eighth and Hancock earned their first varsity softball win since restarting the program a year ago, 7-6 over Wheaton/Herman-Norcross. The Owls are now 1-4, the Warriors fall to 3-3. 

Brandon-Evansville 10, Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley 7
GRACEVILLE – Brandon-Evansville scored four runs in each the third and fourth innings on their way to a 10-7 win over Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley.
Sara Jacobson earned the win with 3.1 innings in relief of Mikenna Pattrin, allowing two unearned runs without giving up a hit. Pattrin would reenter and pick up the save. Kristen Kokett hit a three-run home run and finished with four RBI’s on the day, Alena Shores was 3-4 and Allie Satterlie drove in a pair of runs as the Chargers improve to 5-4. Lora Botker went the distance for the Wolverines in the losing effort, Jessica Moberg was 2-4 with an RBI and CGB falls to 2-3. 

West Central Area 12, Ashby 2 (6 inn) / West Central Area 15, Ashby 0 (3 inn)
BARRETT – West Central Area improved to 10-1 on the season with a doubleheader sweep of Ashby on Tuesday. Brianna Kreft earned the win in game one, throwing six innings giving up two runs on four hits and striking out eight as the Knights got a 12-2 win in six innings. Hailey Bennett was the game two winner as the Knights won 15-0 in three innings. Bennett, facing just 13 batters struck out three allowing two hits.

Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City 13, Benson 5

Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta 16, Benson 4
BENSON – Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta put together a six-run fourth inning to take the lead, adding an eight-run sixth to pull away for a 16-4 win over Benson.
Parker Dierks was 4-5 with two RBI’s and two runs for the Tigers who had 18 hits total. Zach Bruns, Jaret Johnson, and Alex Daugherty each had three hits, and Tyler Reimers drove in three runs. Brock Anderson allowed three unearned runs over 3.2 innings for the win, and the Tigers improve to 4-1. Brandon Osterbauer had two RBI’s for the Braves who fall to 0-6.

Hancock 8, West Central Area 3 / West Central Area 4, Hancock 1
BARRETT – Early game runs held up in each game of a doubleheader as Hancock and West Central Area split a pair on Tuesday.
The Owls scored five in the first inning, eventually building up an 8-0 lead and took game one 8-3. Montana Molden threw a complete game allowing three runs on three hits for the win, Tanner Pahl was 2-2 with two RBI’s. Isaiah Sykora was 2-4 with two RBI’s and Trystan Gapp threw four scoreless innings of relief for the Knights. 

In game two it was the Knights who scored twice in the first inning, earning a split with a 4-1 win.
Gapp allowed an unearned run on three hits over three innings for the win, Grant Beuckens tossed two hitless innings with five strikeouts, and Mason Nibbe picked up the save with a perfect sixth. Gapp had an RBI and two runs scored. Colten Crowell took the loss despite allowed three unearned runs on three hits. The Owls are now 2-6, the Knights are 3-2. 

Border West 6, Barnesville 3
BARNESVILLE – Matt Thielen went 3-4 at the plate while tossing 6.1 innings to earn the win for Border West in a 6-3 defeat on Barnesville. Thielen allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits, striking out 11. James Conroy had two RBI’s and the Bucs improve to 4-1.

Minnewaska 14, Montevideo 5
MONTEVIDEO – Minnewaska erupted for 15 hits in a 14-5 win over Montevideo.
Collin Wiedauer was 3-5 with five RBI’s and a run, Matt Gruber homered going 2-3 with four RBI’s and three runs, and Isaiah Testa earned the win allowing three runs (one earned) over four innings. Noah Buseman was 3-4 with two runs for the Thunder Hawks. The Lakers are 3-2, the Hawks fall to 0-5.
