Cougar Women’s Tennis Victorious, Men Drop A Pair 19 Apr 18

LAKEVILLE / OWATONNA, Minn. – It was a busy 24 hours for the Minnesota Morris men’s tennis team as they faced Bethany Lutheran Wednesday night in Lakeville then drove south to battle Martin Luther Thursday in Owatonna. The Cougars dropped both matches.

Paul Leslie gained his second win over the Knights this season at No. 1 singles as he topped his opponent 6-3, 6-2. Andy Haley at No. 2 singles and Jack Flicker at No. 3 singles each won multiple games in their respective matches before falling by identical 6-3, 6-4 scores.

Minnesota Morris (1-6) hits the home court for the first time this season Tuesday when they entertain North Central.

LAKEVILLE / OWATONNA, Minn. – The Minnesota Morris women’s tennis team picked up their first conference win of the season when they defeated Bethany Lutheran Wednesday night, 6-3, in Lakeville.

The Cougars then traveled to Owatonna Thursday for a non-conference set with Martin Luther and fell, 8-1.

UMM 6, BLC 3

UMM went 4-2 in singles matches. At No. 3 singles, Sam Tate had the most dominant Cougar win as she defeated her opponent, 6-1, 6-0. Hannah Godzala only lost one game more than Tate as she won her match, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 6 singles. Emily Johnson at No. 1 singles (6-1, 6-3) and Maddie Johnson at No. 2 singles (6-2, 6-1) also gained victories for the Cougars.

In doubles, Emily Johnson and Tate teamed to win their match, 8-2, at No. 1 doubles. Maddie Johnson and Abby Van Kempen topped their opponent at No. 2 doubles, 8-6.

MLC 8, UMM 1

Tate was the lone winner for the Cougars on Thursday as she topped her foe, 7-6 (7-1), 6-2 at No. 3 singles. Emily Johnson, Maddie Johnson, and Van Kempen all fell by identical, 6-3, 6-4 scores.

Minnesota Morris (2-5) returns to Morris to host North Central on Tuesday.
