Caledonia 80, Minnewaska Area 41
MINNEAPOLIS – Led by a dominant defensive effort, Caledonia routed Minnewaska Area 80-41 in the class 2A quarterfinals from Williams Arena in Minneapolis on Wednesday night.

The Warriors entered averaging nearly 85 points per game, but it was their defense that the Lakers struggled with, as Caledonia forced 18 turnovers in the first half, many of which led to quick buckets on the offensive end.

Despite the turnovers and the fact that the Warriors had taken 20 more shots in the first half, Minnewaska only trailed by 11 at the break.

Any thoughts of another Lakers comeback playoff win went out the window when the Warriors opened the second half on a 22-4 run and never allowed the Lakers get into any sort of rhythm on the offensive end.

Caledonia finished the game shooting 48 percent from the floor and were led by Marten Morem’s 18 points. Noah King had 14 points with five rebounds, and eighth-grader Eli King added eight points off seven steals for the Warriors who are 27-4 and will face Brooklyn Center in the semifinals on Friday.

Garrett Jensen had 13 points to pace the Lakers, Jackson Johnsrud scored nine and Matt Gruber added seven as they fall to 21-8.

Minnewaska now faces Breckenridge in the consolation semifinals at 8:00 on Thursday from Concordia-St. Paul.
