SALEM, Va. – Prior to the NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Championship Game Saturday in Salem, Va. the 2018 D3hoops.com All-American team was announced and Minnesota Morris senior guard CD Douglas was selected as a Fourth Team All-American selection.
Douglas joins Minnesota Morris volleyball players Marissa Ekness and Katie Reitsma as Cougars named All-Americans this school season.
This marks Douglas’ fourth postseason honor this season. He was named Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Player of the Year and received First Team All-West Region accolades in both the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and D3hoops.com teams.
BASEBALL
WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Minnesota Morris took a late lead in the opener against Bard College, but dropped a one-run decision. They then fell in the nightcap as well in a baseball doubleheader at the Central Florida Invitational.
Game 1 – Bard 10, UMM 9
The Cougars capitalized on Bard errors to score three unearned runs in the third to take a 3-2 lead. They added five more runs in the sixth to take an 8-6 edge. Nick Peterson hit the Cougars’ first home run of the season to start the rally. Brothers Brady and Bryce Jergenson sandwiched RBI doubles around a Mac Brink run-producing triple. Bard scored four times in the seventh to reclaim a 10-8 lead. UMM did not go away quietly though. After Mitch Baumann reached to start the inning, Jackson Gessell brought him home with an RBI double to make it 10-9. The Cougars would have runners on first and second with one out, but Bard retired the final two batters to preserve the win.
Brady Jergenson went 3-for-4. Gessell, Peterson, and Baumann each had two hits.
Game 2 – Bard 8, UMM 2
Bryce Jergenson had a pair of hits, including a triple. Peterson delivered an RBI single. Brink allowed just one run in three innings of relief.

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – After a day off Thursday, the Minnesota Morris baseball team resumed play Friday and today at the Central Florida Invitational.
Olivet 16, UMM 3
The Cougars reached double figures in hits with 10. Nine different Cougars recorded a hit, including Mitch Baumann who picked up a pair. Mac Brink had an RBI single and Brady Jergenson delivered a 2-RBI double. Jackson Gessell tied the program record for career triples with 16.
Lawrence 13, UMM 2
Zach Kuefler, Gessell, Blaise Fairbanks, Trent Johnson, and Nash Kramer all had base hits. Fairbanks’ sixth-inning single drove in two runs.
Minnesota Morris (1-8) is back on the diamond tomorrow for a doubleheader against Bard College.
