MORRIS – The MBA Storm Bantams will open State Tournament play against Hastings at the MAC Hockey Center in St. Cloud on Friday, March 16th. Game time is at noon. MBA advances to the State Tournament as the North Region Champions, winning the title on March 2-4 in International Falls.

MBA opened the regional tournament against Bagley on Friday the 2nd.  After playing to a 1-1 tie in the opening period the Storm would steadily take control of the game, winning by a score of 7-2.

In their second game of the tournament, on Saturday, MBA would face a familiar foe in fellow District 15 member Brainerd. The two teams had split their regular season series at 1-1. In this game, MBA fell behind 2-0 after the opening period before coming back to take a 4-2 lead which lasted until late in the third period. Brainerd pulled their goalie and scored to come to within one at 4-3 with just 8 seconds left in the game. The Storm won the ensuing face off and ran out the clock to advance to the Championship game.

On Sunday MBA took on another District 15 opponent in Moorhead Black. Moorhead Black had defeated the Storm three times earlier in the season, each time by one goal, with the final loss being in the District 15 Championship game in overtime. This time the Storm turned the tables by defeating Moorhead Black in overtime to advance to the state tournament. Moorhead Black was forced to play again later on Sunday where they defeated Grand Rapids to qualify for state as the North Region runners up.

MORRIS – Like their Bantam teammates, the Morris/Benson Area Pee Wees are advancing to state with a 7-1 win over Moorhead Black in Sunday’s North Region Tournament championship.

The win capped a 3-0 weekend for the Storm in Sauk Centre, who defeated Grand Rapids 10-4 before knocking off Lake of the Woods 5-4. The MBA Pee Wees will face Lakeville South at 12:30 on Friday, March 16th at the MAC Hockey Center in St. Cloud.

MBA took the lead early in the game but Moorhead answered before the end of the first period and it was tied at 1-1 at the period break.  Moorhead got the only second period to lead 2-1 heading into the third. MBA started period number three on a power play and they capitalized to tie the game but Moorhead answered immediately to regain their one goal advantage.  The Storm were able to tie the game with 1:39 left in regulation to send the game into a sudden death overtime period where the Storm would score to win the North Region Championship.
