Law Enforcement Trying To Identify Burglars

The Grant County Sheriff’s Office needs your help with a recent break-in at the Elbow Lake Municipal Airport.

Deputies were called at 1:02 a.m. last Tuesday, on a report of unauthorized hangar entry. Video surveillance showed two individuals allegedly damaging or tampering with several aircraft.

The footage is posted on the Grant County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, you’re asked to contact them immediately if you can identify either person.

Senate Republican Caucus Considers Security Funding

With recent headlines dominated by high-profile violence, Senator Torrey Westrom (R-12) is inviting your feedback about school safety.

His colleagues are considering measures to “hard[en] the targets” with the help of additional funding, Westrom adds he’s been seeking feedback from numerous school administrators and teachers throughout the District.

Herman First Responders Obtain New Equipment

Herman Fire And Rescue has been busy, but in a good way.

Earlier this winter, the crew received a 50:50 grant from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources to “convert [an] old federal vehicle to fire rigs.”

Volunteer firefighter Tanner Lehman says that new, ex-military 6×6 Freightliner, with all-wheel-drive, being painted right now (after the team did the stretching themselves). Last Tuesday night, firefighters also took possession of a new Quick Response Rescue Truck, which will be used on all of their medical calls.

Lehman says the purchase was financed through a grant from the Otto Bremer Foundation, “which is huge,” since the Department’s calls are mostly for medical emergencies.

Three Injured In Big Stone County

Two people were critically wounded Saturday night after a head-on collision near Odessa.

At 10:16 p.m., 52-year-old Dean James Serna of Fergus Falls was driving east on Highway 7, near the County Road 77 intersection, when he crossed into westbound traffic.

Serna crashed into 28-year-old Clark Jay Berghuis of Willmar, who had 46-year-old Eric John Barck of Marshall as a passenger. None of the three men were wearing their seatbelts. Serna was taken to Sanford Medical Center of Fargo, Berghuis and Barck were brought to CentraCare Hospital of Saint Cloud.

The State Patrol characterizes Barck’s injuries as minor, but Serna’s and Berghuis’ as life-threatening.

MAHS Briefs Commissioners Tomorrow

The Stevens County Board of Commissioners will meet tomorrow to receive a presentation about “agricultural issues” from the Morris Area High School.

The members will also get a budgetary update from the Victim Services Coordinator, consider resolutions on regional organics composting and maintenance for Moore Township, study possible repairs for County Ditch 21, plus a closed-door session about mediation with their unions.

The Board meets at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow in the Stevens County Courthouse.
