Larkin Takes 2nd At State, Rockets Upset Warriors At The Buzzer, Tigers Dominate 03 Mar 18

Section 3AA-North Quarterfinals

Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta 89, Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City 44
MORRIS – The Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta Tigers dominated from start to finish in an 89-44 rout of Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City on Saturday night from the Tiger Center.
The Tigers hit eight of their first ten shots and rolled through the Falcons, finishing the game by shooting 61 percent from the floor while holding the Falcons to just 26 percent, and outrebounding ACGC 36-20.
The Tigers had three different stretches during the game where they hit six or more consecutive shots while playing lockdown defense, disrupting any type of rhythm the Falcons tried to get into.
Jaret Johnson led four Tigers in double-figures with 24 points, Camden Ardnt had 18, Tate Nelson scored 13 and Connor Koebernick added 12. Jackson Loge was the lone starter not in double-figures, but affected the game in others way with his five assists, six rebounds, and four blocked shots. Chandler Vogel and Kyle Staebler provided 15 points off the bench.
Arndt pulled down eight rebounds while Koebernick had seven, Nelson added three boards, three assists, two steals, and two blocks. The Tigers are 13-13 and will face Minnewaska Area in the sub-section semifinals on Thursday in Willmar, tipoff at 6:00.
Josh Kinzler scored 16 for the Falcons who’s season ends at 11-15.

Section 6A-South Semifinals

Underwood 65, Wheaton/Herman-Norcross 64
MORRIS – Kayla Rocholl delivered a long pass down the floor to Brenna Tinjum who then turned and nailed a three-pointer at the buzzer and Underwood upset top seeded Wheaton/Herman-Norcross 65-64 on Saturday on the UMM campus in Morris.
The Warriors led by five with 1:30 remaining when Tinjum hit a three to cut the lead to two, Emma Schmidt was then fouled and hit 1 of 2 free throws to put the lead at three. Corina Mark for the Rockets then nailed a three to tie the game with 20 seconds left.
Haley Johnson’s shot in the corner fell short but was caught by Briona Edwards who layed it in to give the Warriors a two point lead with five seconds left. The Rockets quickly inbounded the ball before a timeout was called on the floor with 3.4 seconds left.
Out of the timeout, having to go the length of the floor, Mark inbounded to Rocholl who dribbled and threw a long pass to Tinjum on the left wing, she caught it and with a hand in her face drilled the game-winner and Rockets flooded floor in celebration.
Emma Schmidt had a game-high 27 points with eight rebounds and three steals, Johnson scored 11 and Maycee Tolifson added eight for the Warriors who season ends with a 23-5 record.
Sydney Hovland had 22 for Underwood, Tinjum hit five threes to finish with 19, Rocholl added 17 and the Rockets are now 19-7 on the year. 

Parkers Prairie 44, West Central Area 29
MORRIS – A dominant defensive effort by Parkers Prairie has them in the 6A-South championship with a 44-29 win over West Central Area.
The Knights were held to just 24 percent shooting and were outrebounded by the Panthers 30-22.
The Panthers led 15-14 at halftime when Veronica Schwartz took over, scoring 14 of her game-high 21 points in the second half to with 10 rebounds, four steals, and two blocks. Faith Alberts added six points with five blocks and the Panthers improve to 23-2.
Ella Van Kempen had 10 points and six rebounds for the Knights, Brianna Kreft added nine points and five rebounds as their season ends with a mark of 19-8.
Parkers Prairie will face Underwood in the 6A-South championship at 7:45 on Tuesday back on the UMM campus. 

6A-North Semifinals

Individual State Tournament
ST. PAUL – West Central Area/Ashby/Brandon-Evansville’s Levi Larkin defeated Osakis’ Colton Waldvogel 3-2 in the class A 170 lb. semifinal match before falling in the second overtime period of the state championship to Canby’s Jaden Kindopp by a 2-1 decision, taking second place.
Larkin finished his state run with a 3-1 record, while teammate Kaden Spindler finished 4-1 taking third place honors.
Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa’s Adam Jaeger is the state champion at 150 lbs. of the class A tournament, Cannon Swanson was runner-up at 120 lbs., and Tyler Bents took third at 132 lbs.

The Morris/Benson Area Storm boys bantams will face Moorhead Black for the regional tournament championship on Sunday after defeating Brainerd 4-3 in the semifinals on Saturday. Game time on Sunday is 9:00 a.m.
The Storm PeeWees also advanced to their regional championship with a 5-4 victory over Lake of the Woods. The PeeWees will also face Moorhead Black at 9:00 a.m. for the title.
