MORRIS – Wheaton/Herman-Norcross senior guard Emma Schmidt has been selected to participate in the 2018 Minnesota Girls Basketball All-Star game April 6-7 at Carleton College in Northfield.

This marks the second straight year Schmidt has been named an all-star, which is an honor that the top 10 players from each of the four classes across the state receive.

Schmidt helped lead the Warriors to the Pheasant Conference title with an 11-0 record, and 22-4 overall to earn the number one seed in section 6A-South, averaging 18.5 points per game, 7.5 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 5.0 steals.

In boys basketball, Hancock senior Noah Kannegiesser has been invited to play in the 36th annual Minnesota Basketball Coaches Association All-Star game on Apring 6-7 at St. Cloud St. University (Fri) and Macalester College (Sat) in St. Paul.

The invite is extended to the state’s top 40 boys basketball players.

Kannegiesser has also been named one of 35 semi-finalists for the 2018 McDonald Award presented by the MBCA.

The award is named in honor of legendary Chisholm coach Bob McDonald, who spent 59 years as a high school coach in Minnesota and totaling 1,012 career victories. It will be presented to the senior basketball player who best exhibits strength of character on and off the court, contributes to team effort, excels on both ends of the floor, and performs well over the entire season.

Ten Finalists will be announced in early March, with the winner being announced in late March or early April.

Kannegiesser leads the state with a 36.2 points per game average and was a top 20 finalist for the Mr. Basketball Award. He helped the Owls clinch their first Pheasant Conference title in 15 years with a perfect 12-0 record, going 22-2 overall.
