SAUK CENTRE – Morris/Benson Area’s season came to an end on Saturday in Sauk Centre when they lost to Prairie Centre 7-0 in the section 6A playoffs.
The Storm opened the game with a defensive strategy, trying to slow the North Stars high-powered offense, and it worked keeping the game close for two periods until the wheels came off in the third when the Stars had a flurry of goals.
Brady Miller netted the game’s first goal at 13:27 of the first when a shot bounced off the end boards out in front of the net and Miller tapped it home.
The Stars added two in the second period when Hunter Fletcher ripped a shot past Chase Engebretson’s stick-side at 5:34. Seth Deters added another at 11:01 off a rebound after Engebretson sold out for an incredible save on the initial shot, leaving the net wide open.
In the third the Storm went with a more wide open game to try and generate some scoring chances, but it was the Stars who took advantage with Miller adding two more for a hat trick, Ian Gould and Cole Crosby poured on a couple more.
Engebretson had 40 saves in net for the Storm who’s season ends with a 7-14-1 record. The Stars are 13-12-1 and will face Sartell-St. Stephen in Tuesday’s quarterfinal round.
