Local NewsMinute: Steve Backman, Eagles, Jam Session, And No Swift County Relay 15 Feb 18

Welcome To Backman Welding

The Morris Industrial Park has a new tenant.
Backman Welding invites you to a free open house tomorrow afternoon, featuring a light lunch and tours of their new facility.
Owner Steve Backman says having separate crews and equipment for leased buildings in Hancock and Morris was getting “inconvenient,” so three years ago, they bought land from Carol and Jeff Wilcox.
The event is from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., the new building is located between Westmor and Bonanza Beans.

Relay Work Begins Early

This summer, Stevens County’s Relay For Life will be earlier than ever, so preparations have already begun. During the teams’ kickoff meeting, a dessert challenge was held, and Algene Larson won a movie basket with her Mushmellow Fluff.
Going forward, anyone wanting to be involved can go to the Ag Country Farm Credit Services of Morris at 6:00 p.m. on the second Monday of each month. This year’s theme is “Decades,” so each Team must pick a decade to use in their decorations, costumes, or refreshments.
The march will be held on June 22 in the Lee Community Center. A special invitation has been extended to the residents of Swift County, which will not have a Relay of their own this year.

Sweethearts Served By Eagles

Last night, the Morris Fraternal Order of Eagles served steak and shrimp to a hungry crowd.
Secretary Mike Cihak says the proceeds from the annual Sweetheart Supper support nonprofits and local schools. If last year was any guide, Cihak thinks between 40 and 50 people will have attended.

Taylor Takes The Stage

For the last year, Babe Taylor has entertained local guests. After meeting his wife, a graduate from the University of Minnesota, Morris, he decided to make The Brick House the cornerstone of his touring career.
Personally, Taylor loves having guests join him on-stage, and, going forward, he hopes more local talent will attend. Last night was the final Jam Session until the end of Lent.
