Internship Program Considers Its Fourth Year

Students at West Central Area Secondary are reflecting on their third year of interning with Prairie Ridge Hospital of Elbow Lake.
Richard Dunkin teaches health science, and says this year, fourteen students had a one-on-one, week-long rotation in each of the Hospital’s departments, such as the clinic, lab, dietary area, and pharmacy. They’re also given a one-week “boot camp” on medical privacy laws.
Dunkin has high hopes for future years – he wants to see his students paired up with a chiropractor and a dentist.

Local Farming Restrictions And Training

Local farmers will be able to use Dicamba under limited circumstances.
The restrictions are limited to products labeled for use in tolerant soybean fields, such as XtendiMax, Enginia, and FeXapan herbicides. Going forward, State and federal authorities are requiring anyone wanting to apply Dicamba to attend a two-hour-long training class hosted by the manufacturer.
The Old No. 1 of Morris is hosting morning and afternoon sessions on March 6.

Welcome To Winterama

If you’re missing the warm weather of Waterama, tomorrow, you can try its colder cousin – Winterama.
Originally founded by the Minnewaska/Glenwood Jaycees almost twenty years ago, Winterama features “shop hops” in downtown Glenwood, the Polar Plunge, children’s games and art classes, dancing and pool parties, and more.
The day’s proceeds support “beautification projects,” such as mini-parks around Lake Minnewaska and new playground equipment. You can view the full schedule of events at glenwoodandbeyond.org.

Crime Spree On Douglas County Lakes

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is warning anyone who’s gone ice fishing on Lakes Brophy, Darling, Freeborn, and Le Homme Dieu – there’s been a rash of ice house break-ins lately.
In a statement, Sergeant Scot Umlauf says Deputies have received “a number of” theft and damage-to-property complaints.
“Suspects force their way into the fish houses, looking for items,” Umlauf continues, “During the Lake Darling break-ins, Deputies were able to locate tracks from two suspects who used a pickup to travel from fish house to fishhouse.”
You’re urged to stay far away and report any suspicious activity, and to take your belongings with you when leaving your fish house.
