Lakers Fend Off Late Push By Tigers, Owls Win Ninth Straight, Storm Shutout Eagles 02 Feb 18

Minnewaska Area 59, Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta 47
MORRIS – Minnewaska held off a late push by Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta to earn a 59-47 win over the Tigers on Friday from the Tiger Center.
Trailing by 12 at halftime, the Tigers opened the second half on a 12-2 run to pull within two. The Lakers would regain control and build up a 14-point lead with about three minutes remaining, when the Tigers went on a 9-0 run to get within five with 1:30 to go.
The Lakers again responded by hitting free throws down the stretch to earn a season sweep of the Tigers.
Matt Gruber had 16 points, going 9-10 on free throws, with six rebounds, Jackson Johnsrud had 16 points, Garrett Jensen added 12 and the Lakers are 13-5.
Jaret Johnson led all scorers with 20 points and five rebounds, Camden Arndt scored 10 but they fall to 9-9.

Hancock 77, Ortonville 66
ORTONVILLE – Hancock shot 44 percent from three-point range, overcoming a halftime deficit to defeat Ortonville 77-66 on Friday.
The Owls shot 51 percent for the game, going 11-25 from long range to win their ninth straight game and improve to 15-1 on the season.
Noah Kannegiesser finished with 26 points, six shy of becoming the school’s all-time leading scorer. Bennett Nienhaus added 18 with six rebounds, Cole and Connor Reese combined for 22 while Kaleb Koehl added eight points with seven rebounds.
The Trojans got 24 points from DaVonte Edwards, Tyson Powell hit the 1,000 point milestone with 13 points, Peter Treinen and Caden Wellnitz each added 13 but the Ortonville falls to 14-4.

West Central Area 72, Wheaton/Herman-Norcross 38
BARRETT – West Central Area shot 60 percent from the floor in a 72-38 rout of Wheaton/Herman-Norcross.
Jack Van Kempen paced the Knights with 18 points, Dawson Staples had 15 points with nine rebounds, Logan Paulson added 15 and West Central Area improves to 11-7. Nick Lupkes and Zach Stueve each had 11 points for the Warriors who fall to 2-12.

Brandon-Evansville 52, Henning 51
HENNING – Taylor Bitzan filled up the stat sheet to lead Brandon-Evansville past Henning 52-51.
Bitzan finished with 21 points on 6-8 shooting to go with seven rebounds, four assists and four steals. Jake Hintermeister added 14 points with four assists for the Chargers who are 10-6, winners of three straight.

MORRIS – Zach Bruns tallied a hat trick to lead the Morris/Benson Area Storm past Red Lake Falls 7-0.
The Storm out-shot the Eagles 46-12 and got a four-point performance from Kolby Goff with a goal and three assists, Chase Engebretson turned back each shot he faced and they improve to 6-9-1.
Jack Riley added three assists, Matt Tolifson, Kellen Erdahl, and Mike Halvorson also scored for the Storm.
Brendan Larson had 39 saves for the Eagles who fall to 3-15-1.
