Prep Results: Storm Erupt With Nine Goals, Spindler A Champion At Big Bear 16 Dec 17

Morris/Benson Area 9, Fairmont 4
BENSON – Morris/Benson Area had five players with multi-point games in a 9-4 rout over Fairmont on Saturday from the Benson Civic Center.
Matt Tolifson scored twice in the first period and the Storm overwhelmed the Cardinals early jumping out to a 5-0 lead going into the first intermission.
Jack Riley added another quick goal in the second before the Cardinals rallied and scored the next three to cut the deficit in half.
With the momentum having shifted to Fairmont’s side, the Storm responded with a three-goal flurry in the third period in a four minute span and coasted to victory from there.
Kolby Goff had four points with three assists and a goal, Zach Bruns had a goal with two assists, Riley added two assists with a goal and Hunter Gades tallied two assists as the Storm got 27 saves from Chase Engebretson as they improve to 2-2-1.
Thomas Havenen scored twice for the Cardinals as they fall to 0-9.

Fairmont 4, Morris/Benson Area 3
BENSON – Mackenzie Householder scored with 1.9 seconds remaining to give the Fairmont Cardinals their first win of the season, 4-3 over Morris/Benson Area on Saturday.
It was Householder’s second goal of the game and gave the Cardinals their first lead, after trailing 3-2 with just over three minutes remaining.
Hallie Watzke got the scoring started with a first period goal at 4:24, before Householder got the equalizer on a power play early in the second. Taryn Picht scored a short-handed goal to get the lead back, but again the Cardinals answered with another power play goal, this time from Anna Nordquist.
Picht got her second goal with just over two minutes remaining in the second and the Storm went into the second intermission leading 3-2.
The game stayed that way until Tegan Roskop netted the equalizer with 3:20 left.
With five seconds left in regulation the game seemed destined for overtime, but off a face off Householder fired a one-timer off the pipe into the back of the net for the win.

MADISON – Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta held Lac qui Parle Valley to just nine second half points en route to a 57-31 win in Madison on Saturday.
Camden Arndt paced the Tigers with 15 points, nine rebounds, six assists and three steals. Jaret Johnson had 14 points and Jackson Loge netted 10 as the Tigers snap their two-game skid improving to 2-2. The Eagles fell to 4-3.

Lac qui Parle Valley 48, Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta 46
MADISON – Malory Anderson recorded a double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds in a losing effort as Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta fell to Lac qui Parle Valley 48-46.
Maddie Carrington added 10 points with four steals, and Riley Decker chipped in with nine points but the Tigers saw their two-game win streak snapped and fall to 5-3. The Eagles are now 7-1.

Big Bear Tournament
CASS LAKE – West Central Area/Ashby/Brandon-Evansville wrestler Kaden Spindler was the 160 pound champion at the Big Bear Wrestling Tournament on Sautrday.
Spindler won a 5-4 decision over Josh Barrier of Thief River Falls in the championship match. His teammates Jacob Lohse (113) and Mason Nibbe (220) each took fifth place in their respective weight classes, and the Knight took fifth place in team results with a 119.
Gage Weveley was the highest finisher for the MAHACA taking sixth place at 220, the Tigers finished 26th with a team score of 55. Minnewaska finished 18th with a 81, Tyson Meyer took fourth at 170 and Tyler VanLuik was fifth at 195.

Cambridge-Isanti took first with a team score of 182.5. 40 teams competed at the tournament.
