BOYS BASKETBALL
Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta 83, Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City 58
MORRIS – Four Tigers scored in double-figures as Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta won their season opener 83-58 over Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City on Friday from the Tiger Center in Morris.
The Tigers never trailed, using an early 8-0 run to gain control and built up 14-point first half lead before the Falcons rallied to close the haltime deficit to six.
The Falcons would get within five before Jaret Johnson scored six straight points to reignite the Tiger offense and the lead grew larger from there.
Johnson earned player of the game with 21 points, seven rebounds and four steals. Camden Arndt led all scorers with 24 points, five rebounds, and Connor Koebernick filled up the stat sheet with 14 points, four assists and three steals.
We saw the anticipated debut of eighth grader Jackson Loge who finished with 14 points, seven rebounds and two blocks.
The Tigers shot 58 percent from the floor while hitting just one three-pointer, and were 19-29 at the free throw line.
Kobe Holtz and Jarren Kaddatz had 16 each for the Falcons as they fall to 1-2.

Brandon-Evansville 41, Browerville 40
BROWERVILLE – Darrin Wibstad’s put-back at the buzzer lifted Brandon-Evansville past Browerville 41-40 on Friday in a gritty boys basketball game.
With the Chargers trailing by a point, Jake Hintermeister’s three was off the mark but Wibstad was there for tip-in as the buzzer sounded.
Wibstad finished with 10 points and James Strese added six with seven rebounds. The Chargers saw the return of Tanner Bitzan who missed their opener with an injury. Bitzan came off the bench and led the Chargers in scoring with 14 points on 7-9 shooting.
Brandon-Evansville is 2-0 and Browerville is 1-2.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Hancock 42, Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg 24
HANCOCK – Hancock bounced back from a recent loss with a dominant 42-24 win over KMS on Friday night in Hancock.
Lexi Staples scored 12 points on four three-pointers, while Tess Steiner recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds and five assists for the Owls who are 2-1. Katie Krieger led the Saints with eight points as they fall to 0-5. 

Brandon-Evansville 47, Rothsay 17
ROTHSAY – Lauren Landowski returned from injury to lead Brandon-Evansville to a 47-17 rout of Rothsay on Friday night.
Landowski scored a game-high 10 points while Madison Quinn pulled down six rebounds to go with her four points, Sara Jacobson added six for the Chargers who put on a defensive clinic and are now 3-2 on the season. It was the lowest point total of the season for the Tigers who fall to 0-4.
