Prep Results: Chargers Win Seventh Straight, Tigers Fall To BOLD 19 Oct 17

GIRLS TENNIS
Section 6A Single/Doubles Tournament
SARTELL – The MACA/WCA girls tennis season came to an end on Monday at the section 6A singles/doubles meet in Sartell.
Lea Asmus fell to Minnewaska’s Karra Hanson 6-1, 6-2 in the first round of the singles tournament.
The Lakers Danielle Thofinnson won the singles crown 6-0, 6-1 over Dinara Dykema of Osakis.
In doubles action, the Tigers duo of Lily Swanson and Ryanne Long lost to the Lakers Anna Vold and Greta Reichmann 6-0, 6-0 in the first round.
Greta Hentges and Abbigail Athey lost fell to Benson’s Olivia Hoffman and Gracie Lenz.
The Lakers Vold/Reichmann are the section 6A doubles champs after defeating their fellow teammates Hannah Orlowski and Alyssa Thorfinnson.

SWIMMING & DIVING
MACA/Minnewaska/Benson/CGB 91, Perham 86
The Gators defeated Perham on Tuesday 91-86 in their final tune-up before the conference and section meets later this month.
The Gators took first in seven events. Lacey Entzi had two first place finishes for the 200 free and 100 butterfly. Ali Femrite was tops in the 200 IM, Michele Stai for the 50 free, and Elilzabeth Murken in the 500 free.
The 200-Medley Relay team of Stai, Baily Schoen, Hannah and Julia Hoffmann also took first.
The Gators are 7-2 and will compete at the West Central Conference meet on October 27th in Morris.

Minnewaska 35, Benson 14
BENSON – Matt Gruber accounted for 313 yards of total offense and four touchdowns to lead Minnewaska past Benson 35-14.
Guber ran for 183 yards and three scores while throwing for 120 and another touchdown. Garret Jensen ran for 68 yards with a touchdown while Jackson Johnsrud hauled in three passes for 43 yards and a score for the Lakers who end the regular season at 6-2. The Braves fell to 0-8.

Brandon-Evansville 50, Hancock 28
HANCOCK – Brandon-Evansville will carry a seven-game win streak into the postseason after a 50-28 win over Hancock on Wednesday night in Hancock.
Kaleb Koehl’s 73-yard touchdown run on the final play of the first quarter helped the Owls tie the game at eight, but the Chargers would go on to score the next 28 points to take a 36-8 lead. The teams traded scores from there.
The Charger defense forced five turnovers, including three by Tanner Bitzan who had a fumble recovery and two interceptions. Bitzan added seven tackles with a sack to earn co-player of the game, an honor he shared with his brother Taylor who tallied a fumble recovery and two sacks defensively, while rushing for 155 yards and two touchdowns on offense.
Keagan Schiele accounted for 116 yards of total offense, throwing two touchdowns and running for a 44-yard score.
Koehl threw for 192 yards on 16-30 passing, with two touchdowns and three interceptions, he ran for 160 yards and a score. Noah Kannegiesser caught 10 passes for 121 yards and a touchdown.
The Owls are now 5-3 while the Chargers improve to 7-1.

Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley 28, Hillcrest Lutheran 13
GRACEVILLE – Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley ran for 422 yards and defeated Hillcrest 28-13 on Wednesday.
Jason Murphy had 230 of those yards on 23 carries, highlighted by a 55-yard touchdown run. Bryce Hoffman added 102 yards rushing and a touchdown. Hoffman also caught a touchdown from Sam Adelman. Trailing 6-0, the Wolverines would score the next 20 points and hang on to improve to 2-6. The Comets finish their season at 1-7.

Verndale 56, Wheaton/Herman-Norcross 6
WHEATON – Wheaton/Herman-Norcross was held to just 133 yards of total offense in a 56-6 loss at the hands of Verndale.
James Conroy scored the Warriors lone touchdown, Hunter Johnson caught five passes for 45 yards and Nelson Schmidt was 9-19 for 83 yards.
Mack Jones threw three touchdown passes to lead a Pirates offense that racked up 405 yards. Verndale finishes the regular season unbeaten at 8-0, the Warriors fall to 2-6.
