LEGION BASEBALL
Glenwood/Lowry 9, Wheaton 7
GLENWOOD – Jake Hoffman’s two-run single in the sixth inning proved the difference as Glenwood/Lowry won their second straight Northwest Sub-District 7 legion title with a 9-7 win over Wheaton on Sunday at Marthaler Field.

Hoffman had the biggest hit in a game full of them. Tied at two in the bottom of the second, Matt Gruber drove in a pair runs on double to deep right-center field that bounced off the base of the fence to highlight a four-run inning.

The Bandits answered in the third when Lukas Adelman belted a two-run home run over the 370-foot marker in center field to cut the deficit in half.

After another Guber RBI in the bottom of the third, the Bandits would tie the game at seven with a three-run fifth inning on an RBI double from Adelman, sac-fly from Eric Schwagel, and an RBI groundout from Zach Deal to tie it.

Gruber and Colin Richards led off the sixth with singles, and Hoffman took care of the rest. Hoffman and Gruber each finished 3-4 with three RBI’s while Ryan Amundson was 3-4 at the top of the order.

Shawn Stumpf earned the win tossing a complete game, allowing seven runs on eight hits, walking three and striking out two.

Adelman went 3-4 with four RBI’s and fell a triple shy of the cycle, Sam Adelman was 3-4 with three runs scored but took the loss on the hill, firing six innings and allowing nine runs (seven earned) on ten hits.

Glenwood/Lowry will now host New London-Spicer in game one of a best of three series on Tuesday from Marthaler Field at 8:15 on 95.7 KKOK.

Glenwood/Lowry 4, Wheaton 0 (Saturday)
GLENWOOD -Matt Gruber tossed a complete game shutout and Glenwood/Lowry defeated Wheaton 4-0 to earn a return trip to the Northwest Sub-District 7 championship on Saturday at Marthaler Field.

Gruber scattered four hits and struck out six, but his most impressive feat of the day was getting out of a bases-loaded jam with no outs unscathed in the third inning by inducing a fielder’s choice force-out at home, followed by a strikeout and flyout to left.

Ryan Amundson provided the big hit with a two-run single to open the scoring in the bottom of the second, Sean Kelling added two hits for Glenwood/Lowry who is now 13-3 on the season.

Lukas Adelman was on the losing end of a good pitching matchup, allowing four runs (one earned) on five hits, walking two and striking out seven. Matt Thielen led the Bandits with two hits.

Wheaton 5, Hancock 3 (Saturday)
GLENWOOD – In the second game of the day, Wheaton erased an early deficit to earn a rematch with Glenwood/Lowry in the sub-district title game with a 5-3 defeat of Hancock.

After allowing hits to the first three batters he faced-each of whom scored (one earned)-, Eric Schwagel allowed just two more the rest of the way to earn the win, walking four and striking out seven for the win over 6.1 innings.

Lukas Adelman struck out the last two batters to pickup the save while going 2-3 at the plate with an RBI and run scored.

Chandler Gramm took the loss tossing six innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits and striking out eight. Zach Copa had an RBI for Hancock as their season came to an end with a record of 4-9.

Wheaton will now face Glenwood/Lowry at 10:30 from Marthaler Field on Sunday for the sub-district championship, the Bandits would have to win twice to claim the title. If Wheaton were to force a second game, it would be played at 1:00 on Sunday, all games will be aired on 95.7 KKOK.
