Two Morris teens seriously injured in ATV rollover 06 Jul 17

Five young people were injured, two seriously, when a side-by-side ATV rolled over near Bass Lake in Becker County Sunday morning.

14-year-old Cael Eystad and 13-year-old Chalee Eystad, both of Morris, were airlifted to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale. Cael sustained a broken left hand, broken right wrist, and a separated AC joint in his shoulder. Chalee sustained a collapsed right lung, severely bruised left lung, a fractured pelvis, and a lacerated liver.

According to the kids’ Caring Bridge site, Chalee is in an induced coma, but in stable condition, awaiting surgery.

Three other boys, ages 8, 11, and 13, were passengers in the ATV and suffered only minor injuries.

Cael had been driving the Pioneer crew cab UTV on property owned by a family member when he lost control, causing it to roll.

None of the children were wearing helmets or seat belts during the time of the crash, according to the Becker County Sheriff’s Office.

The accident was reported at 11:20 a.m. on July 2 and remains under investigation.
