Motorcyclist dies in hospital after crash with deer 05 Jul 17

A passenger on a motorcycle that collided with a deer in Big Stone County Saturday has died of her injuries, the Minnesota State Patrol reported.

56-year-old Karen Kay Oakes of Ortonville, died as the result of a collision which occurred just before 4 p.m. Saturday when the 2014 Harley-Davidson driven by her husband, Thomas John Oakes, struck a deer on Minnesota Highway 7 near Eternal Springs Road and south of Lagoona Beach. The impact caused the motorcycle to spin around and both driver and passenger were ejected.

Thomas Oakes was transported to the Ortonville Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Neither the driver or passenger were wearing helmets. Alcohol was not a factor, according to the accident report.
