Area Scoreboard: Two-Niners Split, Glenwood Drops Hancock On Walk-Off 17 Jun 17

EVANSVILLE – Morris hung on to win a back-and-forth ballgame with Brandon-Evansville 13-10  in legion baseball on Thursday in Evansville.

The Two-Niners jumped out to an early 7-0 lead, but B-E would respond with the next six runs, and the teams continued trading big inning until a four-run seventh for Morris proved the difference. 

Mitchell Default  did the heavy lifting offensively for the Two-Niners who collected had nine hits as a team, by going 2-3 with three RBI’s. Toby Sayles and Parker Dierks each drove in two apiece.

Dierks earned the win despite only lasting 2.2 innings, while Chandler Vogel tossed the final 4.1 for Morris.

Brandon-Evansville had 10 hits as a team, including three from Austin Bitzan who also picked up two RBI’s. Seven different batters for B-E had an RBI.

Nick Thorstad took the loss, he was one of four pitchers used by B-E.

Brandon-Evansville 8, Morris 4
EVANSVILLE – Brandon-Evansville came out swinging in game two, putting up a four-run first inning and never trailed in an 8-4 win to earn a split.

Austin Bitzan went 2-3 with two RBI’s and two runs scored, Tanner Bitzan was also 2-3 with two RBI’s for B-E who had five players collect an RBI.

Jake Nohre earned the win tossing a complete game, allowing four runs (two earned) on four hits, walking five and striking out six.

Tim Travis was roughed up over three innings in taking the loss. Travis gave up seven runs on eight hits. Ryan Dietz went 2-2 with an RBI as Morris falls to 2-7. With the split, Brandon-Evansville is now 2-1.

Glenwood/Lowry 5, Hancock 4
GLENWOOD – Sean Kelling’s RBI double in the bottom of the seventh to score Matt Gruber gave Glenwood/Lowry a walk-off win over Hancock on Thursday from Marthaler Field.

With the game tied at three, Hancock scored in the sixth on a passed ball to take a 4-3 lead, before Glenwood struck twice in their last at-bat to steal the win.

Chandler Gramm took the loss for Hancock, tossing 6.1 innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on four hits while striking out seven. Gramm helped his own cause by going 2-2 with an RBI and run scored at the plate, Michael Milander also picked up two hits.

Matt Gruber went 2-3 with a home run, three RBI’s and two runs scored to lead Glenwood/Lowry offensively. Gruber got the win in relief of Shawn Stumpf, tossing 3.2 innings, giving up two unearned runs on four hits while walking two and striking out four.
