Prep Results: Zosel & Legate Finish High School Careers At State Golf Tourney 14 Jun 17

JORDAN – Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta Tigers seniors Jacob Zosel and Shiori Legate’s high school careers came to an end on Wednesday at Sand Creek Golf Course in Jordan for the class 2A state golf tournament.

Zosel started the day tied for third, and came out strong on the front nine by firing a 36. He ended the day with a 39 to finish at 75, giving him a two day total of 144 which put him in a four-way tie for seventh place. 

Legate opened day two by shooting a 46 on the front nine, and finished with a 47 on the back nine for a 93, and a two day total of 188. Legate finishes in a four-way tie for 49th place.

Other area athletes included Minnewaska’s Ashlyn Guggisberg who fired a 74, and finishes as the 2A runner-up with a 147, three strokes back of Visitation’s Anni Heck who is the girls 2A individual champion.

The Lakers Madi McGinty finished with a 164 (T-12th), Emily Harste had a 179 (T-34th), Annika Stensrud fired a 195 (T-60th), and Grace Names rounded out the team with a 197 (T-64th). The Laker girls finished fourth in team scoring with a 684, 35 shots behind state champions Detroit Lakes.

Minnewaska’s Esten Stensrud finished the boys tournament with a 145 (T-10th), and Isaac Burgess had a 166 for 71st place. 

The 2A boys individual champion was Red Wing sophomore Cecil Belisle with a 139, the team title goes to Blake School with a 587.

Ortonville’s Britton Conroy finished the class A tournament at Pebble Creek in Becker with a 168, and part of a four-way tie for 28th place. The class A champions went to Tommy Braaten of Blooming Prairie with a 140, and for the girls Callie Wersal of Springfield with a 155.

Mahnomen/Waubun (boys) and BOLD (girls) were the team champions.

Class 3A titles went to Van Holmgren of Wayzata and Joanna Kim of Edina, while team titles belong to Wayzata (boys) and Edina (girls).
