Prep Results: Zosel Tied For Third, Legate Finishes Strong At Day One Of State Golf 13 Jun 17

JORDAN – The Class 2A State Golf Tournament opened up play on Tuesday at Sand Creek Golf Course in Jordan. The Tigers senior Jacob Zosel teed off at 9:00, and through one day of play, sits in a tie for third place.

Zosel carded a 36 on the front nine, and wrapped up with a 33 on the back nine for a 3-under-69, which ties him with Minnewaska senior Esten Stensrud, and Holy Family senior Jack Michel.

Two golfers sit atop the leader board with a one stroke lead, including Red Wing sophomore Cecil Belisle, and and Holy Family junior Lincoln Cizek, who each shot a 68.

The Lakers Isaac Burgess fired an 84, and sits in 72nd place. Blake School leads the team scoring with a 292, two strokes ahead of Detroit Lakes, and three in front of Holy Family. Zosel will tee off for day two on Wednesday at 8:06.


Area golfers at the Class A level from Pebble Creek Golf Club in Becker include Ortonville’s Britton Conroy who is tied for 18th with an 82, 14 shots off the lead. 

On the girls side, Tigers senior Shiori Legate overcame a sluggish start, finishing strong and carding a 95 on day one of the tournament.

Legate shot a 51 on the front nine, but came back with a 44 on the back nine and is in a four-way tie for 46th place. Shiori will tee off at 12:18 on Wednesday.

The leader thru day one is Minnewaska’s Ashlyn Guggisberg, who carded a 73 and holds a two-stroke lead over Visitation’s Anni Heck.

Other Lakers results include Madi McGinty with an 85 (T-15th), Emily Harste with a 92 (T-38th), Grace Names had a 97 (T-58th), and Annika Stensrud with a 98 (T-68th). 

The Lakers are fourth in team standings with a collective score of 347, 15 shots back of leader Lake City.
