Prep Results: Four Games, Four Tigers Wins Over Benson 18 Apr 17

BASEBALL
Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta 8, Benson 4
BENSON – Solid pitching backed by two big innings helped the Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta Tigers earn a doubleheader sweep of Benson on Tuesday, 8-4 in game one, 4-1 in game two. 

Ryan Bowman took the ball in game one, throwing four innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits while walking three and striking out four to earn the win. 

Trailing 2-1, the Tigers pushed five runs across in the fifth inning, with Ryan Dietz and Bowman providing a pair of RBI hits to take a 6-2 lead. The teams traded runs over the final two frames with Mitchell Dufault and Tim Travis combining to get the final nine outs.

Dufault earned player of the game going 3-4 with two RBI’s and a run scored. Brendan Goulet added an RBI single for the Tigers.

Justin Goossen took the loss going 4.1, allowing five runs on two hits walking four with a strikeout. Matt Tolifson went 3-4.

Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta 4, Benson 1
In game two, Chandler Vogel shook off two quick hits by the Braves to go the distance, allowing an unearned run on six hits, with a walk and six strikeouts for the win.

Tolifson cruised through four innings for the Braves before hitting a wall in the fifth, when he walked the first two batters, then things unraveled with two errors as the Tigers scored four unearned runs, highlighted by a Toby Sayles RBI double. Tyler Reimers brought in another run on a sac fly and Vogel took care of the rest to earn player of the game. With the sweep the Tigers are 3-1.

Tolifson suffered the loss while collecting two more hits at the plate for Benson who falls to 0-5.

SOFTBALL
Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta 18, Benson 4 / 6 inn
MORRIS – Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta turned a close ballgame into a blowout with a 10-run sixth en route to an 18-4 win over Benson in game one of a softball doubleheader on Tuesday.

Ashley Solvie got the win tossing four shutout innings, and Piper Gibson went 3-5 with three doubles and an RBI. Bailey Marty, Emma Bowman, Brooke Gillespie, and Karly Fehr had two-hits each.

Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta 6, Benson 4
In game two the Tigers earned the sweep with a 6-4 win over the Braves. 

Karly Fehr belted her first home run of the season, Bowman was 2-3 with a double and triple, Marty and Gillespie added two hits apiece. Liz Dietz earned the win pitching five innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits, and Solvie got the final three outs for the save. The Tigers are now 4-0 on the season, Benson falls to 0-3.

Minnewaska Area 11, Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City 1
GROVE CITY – Morgan Hess tossed a three-hitter while collecting three hits at the plate to lead the Minnewaska Lakers to an 11-1 win over ACGC in game one of a doubleheader on Tuesday. Abby VerSteeg had two hits with four RBI’s.

Minnewaska Area 11, Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City 0
Rachel Erickson followed up Hess’ three-hitter with one of her own, and the Lakers completed the sweep with a 11-0 win over the Falcons. VerSteeg continued her tear at the plate with six RBI’s on three hits, Hess added three RBI’s on three hits as the Lakers improve to 6-2 on the season, the Falcons fall to 0-4.
