MARSHALL – The Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta Tigers came up one win shy of a state tournament appearance as they lost to Jackson County Central 80-71 in the section 3AA championship from Marshall on Thursday.
The Tigers dug themselves into a hole early with turnovers, falling behind 10-2, but would battle back hitting seven of their next 10 shots, including three straight three-pointers from Camden Arndt to take a 19-16 lead.
There was no slowing down the Huskies offense though, as the combination of rebounding fast break points helped them regain control and take a 45-37 lead into halftime.
In the second half the Tigers scored the first four points to cut the deficit to four, but turnovers became an issue once again, as the Huskies turned three straight steals into a quick six points to take a 10 point lead.
From there on the Tigers couldn’t get any closer than seven, as the two teams continued to answer one another shot for shot.
Camden Arndt led five Tigers in double-figures scoring with 21 points and eight rebounds. Tate Nelson had 13 points, six rebounds and four assists, Jacob Zosel ended his historic Tigers career with 11 points and five assists, Lukus Manska and Jaret Johnson each finished with 12.
For the Huskies Jacob Christopher had a game-high 25 points, Ryan Christopher scored 18, and Nico Feroni added 15 with six rebounds.
The Huskies are 26-4, they repeat as section champs and head back to the state tournament where they finished as the runner-up a year ago.
