Forty Acre pit will be up for sale 27 Feb 17

The Forty Acre pit in Stevens County will be up for sale next month.

Only a portion of the land is tillable, and the gravel pit has no more gravel to mine. County Coordinator Beck Young said that the county has not used the acre for many years. The Morris Sun Tribune reports that the county highway department recently used it in November for spoils from construction.

The property is in Horton Township along the unpaved section of Stevens County Road 4. The county will advertise for sealed bids during March and all bids must be submitted to Young’s office by the end of the business day on March 31.

The bid opening is set for 10 a.m. on April 4 during a regular county board meeting.

how can the county justify selling a piece of property /gravel pit! that may become a environmental issue to unsuspecting private party’s,this property should be fully evaluated by the state of Minnesota and any subsequent determinations be held responsible of the current ownership!
