University of Minnesota, Morris Plans Homecoming Festivities 10 Sep 13

The University of Minnesota, Morris invites alumni, students, faculty, staff, and community members to participate in this year’s Homecoming celebration. Homecoming week features various activities, including sporting events, reunions, alumni and student networking opportunities, performances, and more. All are welcome to take part in this fall’s festivities September 23-29.

Traditional homecoming activities such as the Powder Puff Football game, Residence Hall Tug-o-War, and Black Student Union Date Auction, will take place between Monday, September 23, and Thursday, September 26. The Pride of the Prairie’s Farmer’s Market will be held on Tuesday, September 24, from 1-5 p.m. outside the Student Center, followed by the Local Foods Meal at 4:45 p.m. in Dining Services.

The third-annual Invited Alumni and Students Networking Event, hosted by the University of Minnesota, Morris Alumni Association, takes place on Friday, September 27. The event provides students the opportunity to network and share experiences with alumni from various disciplines. The annual Distinguished Alumni Award and Networking Banquet, honoring 2013 Distinguished Alumni Award recipients James “Doc” Carlson ’65, Ann Michels ’92, and Matt LeFebvre ’87 (in absentia), begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Student Center’s Oyate Hall. Friday’s alumni events will conclude with a Performing Arts Alumni Reunion and jam session. The reunion will be held in the VFW room at Old No.1 (412 Atlantic Avenue, Morris, MN 56267), beginning at 8 p.m.

The weekend opens with the Cougar 5K on Saturday, September 28. Registration begins at 8 a.m. at the Regional Fitness Center, with the race starting at 9 a.m. At 11:45 a.m., the tailgate party will take place west of Big Cat Stadium. The Cougar football team will take on Eureka College at 1 p.m.

Following the football game, a dedication ceremony for the new Green Prairie Community will commence at 4 p.m. This innovative living and learning facility opened on August 25 and is the first fully accessible residence hall on campus.

On Saturday evening, the annual HomeKUMMing Concert will begin at 8 p.m. in the Student Center’s Oyate Hall. The concert features music from Ranger Ranger, J Rush and DJ Ti Guy, and Soulcrate.

Homecoming concludes on Sunday, September 29, with the Cougar Baseball Alumni Game at 1 p.m. Students and alumni will then perform in the annual Homecoming Concert, which features Symphonic Winds, Concert Choir, and Alumni Concert Band at2 p.m in the Humanities Fine Arts Recital Hall.
