Fergus Falls Leveled with Pollution Fee 26 Jul 13

The City of Fergus Falls has been ordered by the Minnesota Pollution
Control Agency to pay at $26,000 fee for solid and hazardous waste
violations. The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency completed 65
enforcement cases in 42 Minnesota counties during the second quarter
of 2013. The penalties in these cases totaled just under 240-thousand
dollars.

Nearly 30 percent of the cases in the second quarter were for
stormwater runoff violations. The agency says “Improper stormwater
management can increase soil erosion and cause sediment and other
pollutants to wash into lakes, rivers, streams and wetlands. This
leads to decreased water quality and can harm fish and other aquatic
life.”

Minnesota Pollution Control Agency website. (www.pca.state.mn.us)
