Jobless Rate Rises in West-Central Minnesota 29 Jan 13

Jobless rates in western Minnesota counties rose last month. The unadjusted unemployment rate in Stevens County was 3.8 percent in December, an increase of 0.7 percent from November, according to figures from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development. Other county numbers include: in Big Stone County, an unemployment rate of 5.3%, up 1.2%. In Grant County, the unemployment rate rose 1.8%, to 7.0%. Pope County had an unemployment rate of 4.6%, up 0.9%. In Swift County, the unemployment rate was 6.7%, up 1.9%. In Traverse County, the unemployment rate rose 4.8%, up 0.8%.

The comparable statewide jobless rate is 5.4 percent and the national rate is 7.6 percent.
