A Memorial Service for Verna Hannah Ekberg, age 93, of Starbuck, Minnesota, formerly of Herman, Minnesota will be held Saturday, June 30, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at Bethel Lutheran Church in Herman, Minnesota with Rev. Lloyd Heroff officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 1:00 P.M. until serice time. Interment wll be in Lakeside Cemetery, rural Herman. The Ranney-Bainbridge Funeral Home of Herman, Minnesota is in charge of arrangements.
Verna was born August 9, 1918, in Benson Minnesota, the daughter of William and Ebba (Nelson) Knutson. She graduated from Benson High School and worked in the Swift County AAA office until she married Irven Ekberg of Herman in 1952. They farmed east of Herman until 1964 when they moved into Herman, spending their summers at Lake Minnewaska, Starbuck. Verna was a longtime member of the Bethel Lutheran Church in Herman. Verna spent the last year in the Minnewaska nursing home in Starbuck. Verna’s hobbies included photography, stamp and coin collecting and lapidary. Verna passed away January 30, 2012 at the Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood, Minnesota.
Verna is survived by her three stepdaughters, Jean Maxwell, Eileen Scott (Wes) and Marilyn Scherer (Ted), two step grandsons and their spouses, and four step great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Esther Nelson, two nieces, one nephew and other relatives and friends. Verna was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
