The Big Stone County Board of Commissioners have set a public hearing for April 17 to hear citizen’s comments and concerns on the Strata Corporation’s proposed Conditional Use Permit (CUP). The Corporation plans to open a quarry in Ortonville Township to mine granite on 102 acres of leased land. It’s a plan the Big Stone County Planning Commission has approved of but it’s a plan Ortonville Township has already moved to block.
The commissioners have twice delayed the meeting, once on a request from Strata and again due to elections to fill the late Senator Gary Kubly’s seat. The new hearing will be held at 7:00 p.m. in the Ortonville Armory.
The Board has also accepted the resignation of Vicki Oakes, the chairperson of the Planning Commission, according to The Northern Star. She had voted in favor of the Corporation’s permit application.
The Big Stone County Board of Commissioners will meet in regular session tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m.
