The Morris Lions are already gearing up for the coming baseball season. It’s one of the civic organization’s yearly service projects, and member Jay Dietz says that the Lions look forward to sponsoring one of the area’s Little League groups. Dietz says hundreds of kids join the teams every summer, creating many opportunities for community involvement from coaching to team management to coordinating the league’s many games. Students entering grades 3-6 are eligible for participation. The league starts on the end of May and the season runs through late July.
The Morris Baseball Association helps to run the league; they assist with getting umpires and keeping Wells Park–the playing field–in good condition.
Morris Lions member Barry Urdahl says that as far as community events go, the summer baseball leagues are some of the area’s most popular.
